May 21, 2005 Washington State SAR Conference Meeting time see conference schedule

SARVAC meetings are held every year at the Washington State SAR Conference. In addition, meetings are held the 3rd Saturday of March, September, and November.

The future meeting dates and locations are as follows: September 17, 2005 City Council Chamber (small conference room) at 102 N. Pearl, Ellensburg, WA

Board Meeting 11:30 a.m. General Meeting 12:00 p.m. November 19, 2005 Camp Murray EOC Board Meeting 11:30 a.m. General Meeting 12:00 p.m.


March 19,2005

The meeting was called to order at 12:20 p.m.

Introductions

Everyone at the meeting introduced themselves to the group.

Acceptance of the minutes.

The minutes were accepted. The minutes were accepted with a correction to the Treasurers report showing that the balance on 11/20/04 should be $1789.02 instead of $1789.20. Doyle Wenzel moved and Brooks Hanford seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

President’s Report:

Steve Reddington attended the last meeting for Art Jordan. There is money available in counties from Homeland security to purchase communications equipment. Still trying to get written clarification that volunteer rescuers are classified as 1st responders.

Secretarys Report:

None.

Treasurers Report:

The balance in checking is $1339.02. Dues notices need to be sent out by the secretary.

Committee Reports: None.

State SAR Conference:

Discussion on cost of the the 2005 State SAR Conference. Some members are not participating due to the cost. At the 2004 Conference, the Meritorious, Senior and Junior Award and 3 member countys were to have their 2005 Conference registrations paid by SARVAC. These individuals need to present a copy of their registration and a cancelled check or receipt and they will be reimbursed by SARVAC.

Doug Wenzel made a motion that SARVAC reimburse the Meritorious, Senior, and Junior and one member county for the 2006 Conference registration. The amount to be reimbursed is $50. Glenn Schultz seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Four Certificates to be made up to be presented at the 2005 conference to the winners.

Regional Activity:

Okanogan Recently had snowmobile training, Columbia River evidence search with the dive team for a pistol. Assisted with the Dog Sled Races. Assisted dive team looking for a 78 year old subject who fell out of a boat. Also looked for 2 snowmobilers who were located walking along the highway.

Yakima They have concerns since MAST will be leaving Yakima area April 1st. King, Tacoma and Pierce are trying to put together helicopter resources. Yakima SAR is in the process of moving to new facilities. Have an ongoing SAR Academy with 18 new members in attendance. Project Lifesaver wants to lower the standards for individuals that are participating the PLS program.

Kitsap: Went to Grays Harbor near Lake Quinault for a missing subject. Kitsap County will be hosting a Search Training class on April 2nd and 3rd.

Cowlitz Mostly Dive call outs and recently had a search for 2 missing female rock hunters. This is the second search for rock hunters in the same area.

Snohomish Two missing subjects in the area of White Horse. They were located by helicopter. Last Sunday, teenagers with tennis shoes and shorts fell down a slope in the snow and was found deceased.

Old Business:

SAR Conference.

Sharon Fisher will contact those individuals that SARVAC is paying for their registration. Meritorious, Senior, and Junior Awards were chosen and will be presented at the 2005 SAR Conference.

The Meriotrious Award will be changed to Life Time Achievement Award. There is no change in the age for Junior award. The individual needs to be 18 years of age or younger the previous year prior to the SAR Conference. The Senior Award is for an adult.

There was an unanimous vote by all members present to the above changes.

Jim Peters brought up a discussion concerning solicitations being made by Rusty Soop. He is a member of the Bellingham 4X4 Team. He is making phone solicitations twice a year and this is cutting into SAR Team donations.

New Business:

Elections

Sharon Fisher nominated Doyle Wenzel as a Member-at-Large and Brooks Hanford seconded the motion. Wenzels name was added to the ballot.

Brooks Hanford made a motion that we unanimously elect Jim Peters as Vice President and Sarah Jordan as Secretary. Sharon Fisher seconded. Vote was unanimous.

Chuck Dunnavant and Sharon Fisher counted the ballots. Doyle Wenzel was elected as Member-at-Large replacing Wanda Hightower.

Adjournment:

Motion to adjourn was made by Terry Lawrence at 3:10 p.m. and seconded by Scott Miller. The motion unanimously passed.
